Cal Lutheran Announces Award Winners

Three Ventura County high school seniors received Cal Lutheran University’s President’s Scholar award, which provides half tuition for four years.

Seven other county students were awarded either the Dean’s Scholar or Olsen Scholar prizes and will receive varying amounts of financial assistance.

President’s Scholar winners: Nicholas Aronoff and Ron Scrofano, both of Thousand Oaks, and Alexander Hunt of Moorpark.

Dean’s Scholar winners: Craig Chelius of Simi Valley and Scott Fujita of Camarillo.

Olsen Scholar winners: Michael Anger Jr. of Camarillo, Jeanine Fleur of Ventura, Kelly Jaeger of Moorpark, Sarah Morgan of Santa Paula and Steven Nichols of Thousand Oaks.

In all, Cal Lutheran University awarded 97 scholarships through its Presidential Scholarship program.

Simi Chamber Honors Firm, 2 Individuals Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce announced recipients of its top awards during a recent ceremony.

The 1996 Business of the Year Award was presented to Claude Sweikata and June Givens of Guardian Products, honored for its sponsorship of the Paralympic Games in Atlanta.

The 1996 Business Person of the Year Award went to George Holmes of Holmes Art Center, a Simi Valley business owner for 18 years.

Wayne Schultz was named Ambassador of the Year. He will assist with ribbon cuttings and special chamber projects.

U.S. Chamber Presents Award to Gallegly The U.S. Chamber of Commerce awarded Rep. Elton Gallegly (R--Simi Valley) with its Spirit of Enterprise Award recognizing “his unwavering support for policies important to American business and economic growth.”

The chamber’s award criteria are based on Gallegly’s votes in the House of Representatives on issues including the Balanced Budget Act, Welfare Reform and Farm Bill.
