Oven Fire Damages Pie and Pastry Shop
An oven fire caused damage estimated at $12,000 to a pastry shop, prompting the evacuation of 35 to 50 customers, but no one was injured, firefighters said Tuesday.
About 6:50 p.m. Monday, a pan of drippings inside a rotisserie chicken oven spilled, igniting a small fire that took 21 firefighters about five minutes to control, said Dennis Shell, spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority. Employees at the Gourmet Pie & Pastry Co., 4139 Ball Road, used portable extinguishers to prevent the fire from spreading before firefighters arrived, Shell said.
