A car slammed head-on into a school van Tuesday in Baldwin Park, causing minor injuries to both drivers and one student, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The school van carrying special education students from Baldwin Park and Hacienda Heights was hit by a 1983 Buick Skylark as the bus traveled east on North Garvey Avenue about 7:45 a.m., CHP investigators said.

Although all four students in the van were taken to a hospital to be examined, only one was injured. A 17-year-old Baldwin Park girl was treated at West Covina’s Queen of the Valley Hospital for a cut lip, officials said.

Sherian Tracy, 43, of Ontario, driver of the car, was hospitalized at Queen of the Valley in serious condition after undergoing surgery, authorities said. Bus driver Jacqueline Burruel, 39, of West Covina, was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released.

The van driver works for Durham Transportation, an Austin, Texas-based company contracted by the Los Angeles County Office of Education to transport special education students. The students all attend Baldwin Park schools.
