You wonder why someone who has wanted to do this “rhythm & blues tribute album” for a long time (as the liner notes tell us) would sneak a few of his own compositions in among such pinnacles of the genre as “T-Bone Shuffle” and “Found Love.” But Scaggs’ contributions hold their own next to the archetypes he has chosen and lovingly rendered, rounding out a package that exudes feeling for the style.
