Night ‘Taste’ Event to Replace Street Faire

“Taste of Placentia,” a new evening event downtown, will replace the annual Street Faire this summer, and the fair will move to May 1998.

Hot July weather in past years sparked complaints from Street Faire vendors, entertainers and visitors, prompting city officials to move that daylong event to the spring.

Steve Pischel, recreation services manager, also said that moving the fair date also could boost participation by local schoolchildren and nonprofit groups, who often have difficulty getting together during summer months.

The first “Taste of Placentia,” being organized by the city staff and the Placita Santa Fe Merchants Assn., is planned for July 26. The event will celebrate the city’s cultural diversity, city officials said.

Jim Soto, Recreation and Human Services director, said organizers hope to attract at least 25 restaurants to participate and sell samples of their fare.

Also planned are booths for 15 to 20 craft vendors, entertainment, games and activities for children.
