Sparks From Mower Cause 6-Acre Blaze
A farmer clearing weeds with a tractor accidentally started a small brush fire Monday afternoon when a shower of sparks flew off a mower blade that hit a rock.
The Ventura County Fire Department sent five engines to fight the blaze at Ventura Farms, 555 Potrero Road, south of Thousand Oaks.
The fire, which charred six acres, began shortly after 2 p.m., fire officials said. Firefighters had the blaze under control 40 minutes later. There were no injuries.
