Council Postpones ‘Granny’ Unit Action

Share

An ordinance that would have eliminated age restrictions on so-called “granny” units, while limiting where the units can be built in the city, was continued by the City Council on Monday night.

The ordinance would have thrown out a city requirement that only persons 62 years old or older can live in the units, which are built either as additions or separate facilities to single-family homes.

The ordinance also would have allowed second units to be built only at residences on lots larger than 9,000 square feet.

The measure is expected be on the council’s May 12 agenda.
