Bartlett Scores in Shootout as Rapids Defeat Crew, 2-1

Shaun Bartlett scored in the fifth shootout round to give the Colorado Rapids a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Crew before an estimated crowd of 10,000 Saturday night at Denver.

The Crew scored first in regulation when Peter Marino deflected Jorge Salcedo’s shot into the net in the 76th minute. Bartlett, a South African, equalized for the Rapids with two minutes to play, benefiting from a neat passing sequence begun by Chris Henderson on the left wing.

The Rapids’ record improved to 4-6, while Columbus dropped to 6-3.

Dallas 2, Tampa Bay 0--Mexican star Damian Alvarez scored one goal and assisted on another in his MLS debut, leading the Burn before 15,236 at Dallas.

Alvarez threaded a pass through the legs of a defender to set up Dante Washington for a goal in the 25th minute.

In the 63rd minute, Mutiny defender Cle Kooiman pulled down Washington in the box, and Alvarez sent the resulting penalty kick just under the crossbar.

Burn goalkeeper Mark Dodd made six saves.
