Truck, Computers Donated to School
The number of students enrolled in Gardena High School’s business academy will almost double next year along with the resources that the program provides to students who are learning about business careers.
Last fall, Gardena started the Southern California International Business Academy, a school within a school, to expose students to real-world opportunities. Upon hearing that the school needed more resources, Dr. Howard Murad, founder of an El Segundo-based skin care company, recently donated 17 computers to the academy.
“I was looking to contribute to a school where the kids don’t have the opportunities to learn about computers at home,” said Murad, who also gave the school a 48-foot tractor-trailer for its marching band to carry instruments and equipment to performances.
“They are a forward-thinking school that would benefit from this kind of donation,” Murad said.
Principal Richard Morley said enrollment at the academy will increase next fall from 120 students to 200.
