For the second year in a row, the Ventura County Boy Scouts of America has received a $50,000 donation from billionaire David H. Murdock, chief executive of Dole Food Co. and owner of the Sherwood Country Club near Thousand Oaks.

The money was raised during the recent Templeton Shark Shootout, a professional golf tournament at the country club.

Ventura County Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury, chairman of the Ventura County Boy Scouts of America executive council, said the money will be used to counteract gangs and juvenile crime in the county.

“Your generous donation will allow us to continue to reach out and bring Scouting values to more of the youth of Ventura County,” Bradbury said to Murdock, a Hidden Valley resident.

About 7,500 local youngsters participate in Scouting programs. The council spends about $100 per Scout per year to conduct its programs.
