Placentia’s Earth Week Run, “The Dash Against Trash,” brought in about $7,000 for several local charities.

This year, 555 participated in the event, which featured 8K, 5K and 1K races. It was sponsored by the city and Placentia Linda Hospital.

Proceeds were awarded to several groups at a recent council meeting:

* The Placentia Library District, $3,000 for new books.

* Recycling education in Placentia schools, $1,300.

* Combined Health Appeal of California, $1,500 to benefit the Leukemia Society of America, City of Hope, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and other causes.

Remaining funds went to Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District and community centers for after-school and summer programs.
