Jon Nakamatsu, gold medal winner at the 10th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition on June 8 in Fort Worth, Texas, will appear with the Brentano String Quartet on Feb. 24 at the Irvine Barclay Theatre. The concert will be part of the chamber music series co-sponsored by the Laguna Chamber Music Society and the Philharmonic Society of Orange County. The 28-year-old Nakamatsu, a Stanford University graduate, was described as “everybody’s sentimental favorite” at the competition. He won $20,000 in cash and scores of concert engagements. Jim Belushi and the Sacred Hearts, a blues band, has canceled its July 15 appearance at the Orange County Fair because of scheduling conflicts, officials reported Monday. A replacement has not been announced. The July 11-27 event will feature nightly entertainment. (714) 708-FAIR.
