Police investigators were examining the wreckage Monday in the aftermath of a two-car accident that killed two people the night before.

Killed in the collision were Juan Ceja, 21, and one of his passengers, Leticia Aguirre, 20, both of Oxnard.

Ceja was eastbound when his car drifted off Hueneme Road just past Saviers Road about 10 p.m. Sunday, said Oxnard Police Officer Joe Kaniewski.

Ceja tried to get his Chevy Camaro back on the asphalt, but overcorrected and swerved across the road and into oncoming traffic, Kaniewski said.

“I can’t really say if they were speeding,” he said. “All we know is one witness said they were traveling very fast.”

Ceja’s Camaro was broadsided by a car driven by Sylvia Robles, 31, of Ventura.

The force of the crash pushed the side of Ceja’s car in as much as three feet, Kaniewski said.

Both Ceja and Aguirre--who were in the front of the Camaro and wearing seat belts--were pronounced dead at the scene.

There were three others in Ceja’s car, Kaniewski said, but police would not release their names, saying only that they were treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center and the Ventura County Medical Center.

“They were all juveniles,” Kaniewski said. “It appeared they were just going home for the evening.”

Robles was treated at St. John’s for minor injuries and released, Kaniewski said.

Investigators do not yet know if alcohol played any part in the accident.
