School District OKs Deal to Keep Open Space on Campus

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District voted 3 to 2 Monday night to approve a deal in which the city of Palos Verdes Estates will give the school district $1.47 million to maintain open space land at the Malaga Cove School campus.
The school, closed as a public facility, is rented to two private schools. As part of the agreement, the district will be prohibited from putting buildings on 7.65 acres or about 50% of the campus. But the district will retain title to the property, which is next to a coastal zone and has a view of the ocean and surrounding hills.
The open space money comes from the Proposition A bond initiative approved by voters in 1992 for recreation, parks and open space.
