Garden Grove’s City Council members met for the first time as directors of the Garden Grove Sanitary District this week, culminating a three-year battle to meld independent trash and sewer services into city operations.

As part of its takeover, about 20,000 residents will have trash-collection days changed to coincide with street sweeping.

The directors established the fourth Monday of each month as the regular meeting of the Garden Grove Sanitary District and elected Mayor Bruce Broadwater president of the district.
