They didn’t sing. They didn’t have golden fingers. And they weren’t paid, but hundreds of makeup groupies--most of whom weren’t even born when Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show had that hot single in 1973--showed up at Nordstrom’s cosmetics counter in South Coast Plaza recently to get their picture on a mock-up of Rolling Stone magazine.

The thrill we’ve never known, is the thrill that’ll getcha when you get your picture on the cover of the Rollin’ Stone.

The rock magazine joined forces with edgy beauty line Urban Decay to see how the average person could be transformed into a cover-material rock star.

“The thought behind it was to invite people to have an image update,” says Shelley Hunt, cosmetics buyer for Nordstrom in Orange County.

“He or she could go from one station to the next, getting their hair, makeup, nails and [temporary] tattoos done, then having their picture taken in front of a magazine cover. It was a huge success.”

Wanna buy five copies for my mother. Wanna see my smilin’ face, on the cover of the Rollin’ Stone.

Just don’t ask anyone for a great guitar solo.
