Library Branch to Receive Funds for Improvements

Share

The donations have been sitting around for more than two years, but the Manhattan Beach Civic Center Branch Library will finally be getting $38,850 to make improvements.

The City Council last week approved distribution of the funds, which were raised beginning in late 1994 with a $30,000 contribution from Chevron. Another $8,850 in private donations was collected by early 1995.

Because the Manhattan Beach library is part of the Los Angeles County library system, the city waited to distribute the money until the county changed its policy so that donated funds could be targeted for individual libraries within the county library system.

The Manhattan Beach library plans to spend $12,000 on a new reference center, $10,000 on new computers and computer furniture, $10,000 on reference and general books, and $2,000 on new encyclopedias. Other funds will be spent for books on tape, CDs and bookshelves for the children’s section.
