A delegation of residents from Oxnard’s sister city of Ocotlan, Mexico, will visit Ventura County’s largest city this week, touring important sites and chatting with officials.

About 35 Ocotlan residents were scheduled to arrive Tuesday night. During their five-day visit, they will stroll through downtown Oxnard, view historic buildings at Heritage Square and venture out of the county for a trip to Universal Studios.

The group includes Ocotlan Mayor Jose Jesus Gonzalez, other town officials, several families and a teacher.

On Thursday, the visitors’ tour officially begins with an 11 a.m. flag ceremony at Plaza Park. The Oxnard High School band will play the anthems of both countries.

Alfredo Gonzalez, president of the Oxnard Sister City Committee, said the aim of the program is to broaden the cultural exchange between Oxnard and the city in central Mexico. “We are friends and neighbors,” he said. “These visitations solidify our relationship.”
