County Funds Help Library Add Books, Employee

Thanks to extra funding from the county, the Dana Niguel Library will soon be getting new books and an extra employee.

The City Council this week unanimously approved hiring a part-time library assistant and buying books and other materials with $28,733 in new county funds.

The additional county money is part of $1.6 million the Board of Supervisors recently set aside for the county’s 26 libraries.

Councilwoman Karen Lloreda said she’d also like to see the library open on Sundays, when children often need a place to study and research projects or homework.

The library is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

City officials said they will survey residents to see if there is high demand for Sunday hours at the library branch, located at 33841 Niguel Road.
