Business Accepts Relocation Deal

Share

The owner of Brookhurst Motor Inc. has agreed to a $750,000 settlement with the city in exchange for moving his Brookhurst Street business to make way for a Home Depot store.

The settlement will pay business owner Yong Ung Kim for his relocation costs and lease-hold interests in the property, city officials said.

Kim leased the property at 806 N. Brookhurst St., but the owner has agreed to sell the 2-acre site to Home Depot for a new store. Home Depot also is buying an adjacent parcel to build a 105,000-square-foot store with a 25,000-square-foot garden center.

City officials have supported Home Depot’s move in efforts to revitalize the blighted area and bring in new tax revenue for the city.

Kim plans to move the auto body repair and towing business to two separate sites on Broadway and Manchester Avenue in October.

Home Depot plans to open the new store in fall 1998.
