Gore Among U.S. Amateur Qualifiers
Jason Gore and Mike Miller of Valencia, Chad Wright of Ventura and Mitch Voges of Simi Valley qualified Tuesday for match play in the U.S. Amateur Golf Championships at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Ill.
Miller and Wright led region qualifiers with two-round totals of two-under-par 142, six strokes behind medalist Roger Tambellini of Tempelton--a USC teammate of Wright’s last year.
Gore, a member of the victorious 1997 U.S. Walker Cup team and NCAA champion Pepperdine, shot 144. Voges, the 1991 U.S. Amateur champion, carded a 145.
Jason Semelsberger of Newhall and Tim Hogarth of Chatsworth are locked in a 21-man playoff for the 10 final spots. The playoff was suspended Tuesday evening and will continue this morning.
The top 64 players in stroke play advance to a single-elimination match-play format. Area players not advancing included Al D’Amato of Simi Valley, Brandon Jones of Agoura Hills and Tim Wren of Oxnard.
