Meeting to Address Concerns Over Park

To address long-standing concerns about gangs and violence in Hubert Humphrey Park, Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon and Foothill Division Police Capt. Ron Bergman will hold a community meeting at 9 a.m. today at the park.
Last weekend’s shooting death of 18-year-old football player Jaret Harris as he rode a motor scooter in the park has led to calls from some area residents--including the victim’s family--to shut down the park. But on Thursday, Alarcon and Bergman held a press conference at the park to announce their intentions to keep it open and work to make it safer for neighborhood residents.
This morning’s meeting, which is open to the public, has been planned as a “round table talk” to give residents an opportunity to voice their concerns and share their ideas about how to make the park safer, Alarcon aides said.
The park is at 12560 Filmore St.
