Miller Is Hoping to Finally Catch On

Share

Receiver Billy Miller looks good in practice.

But then, doesn’t he always?

“I’ve had a reputation as a practice player. I’ve got to put it together in the games,” said Miller, who started last season trying to replace Keyshawn Johnson but ended up as a backup, catching 17 passes, sixth on the team.

“I had some drops, and then it got to my head and I lost confidence,” Miller said.

With R. Jay Soward and Larry Parker missing some practice time because of minor injuries--Soward is back on the field now--a lot of balls have been thrown Miller’s way.

“They’re building my confidence by giving me an opportunity to catch the ball,” Miller said.

Coach John Robinson said tailback Delon Washington, still hampered by a sore Achilles’ tendon, probably needs to be practicing at full-speed this weekend to be ready for Florida State on Sept. 6. “I’m concerned about it. But there’s nothing much you can do,” Robinson said. . . . Offensive linemen and tight ends were in limited supply after Antoine Harris left practice because of a strained shoulder. Phalen Pounds, Travis Claridge and Junior Rickman were already out because of minor injuries.
