A man arriving early to attend Blade Jam was beaten and robbed Saturday as he walked on Pacific Coast Highway between Sunset Beach and Seal Beach.

The man, believed to be about 30, stumbled up to the Surfside Colony security gate shortly before 3 a.m., bleeding profusely from the head, missing his shirt and wearing only one sandal.

“He really got whacked,” Sgt. Rick Ransdell said. “He was totally confused. He wasn’t even sure where he was or what had happened.”

Ransdell said the man’s wallet and identification were missing and authorities were still trying to confirm his age and name. The man told authorities he may be from Apple Valley.

The man said he had planned to go camping on Bolsa Chica State Beach on Friday night and attend Blade Jam, ESPN’s biking, skateboarding and in-line skating competition in Seal Beach, police said.

Ransdell said the man changed his plans and decided to try and camp elsewhere on Seal Beach and was walking on Pacific Coast Highway just past Sunset Beach, when he was attacked by what he described as five or six males.

The man was taken to Los Alamitos Medical Center and treated for severe head and facial cuts.

Ransdell asked that anyone with information call Seal Beach detectives at (562) 431-2541.
