Riding Center Seeks Volunteers

Share

The Fran Joswick Therapeutic Riding Center in San Juan Capistrano welcomes volunteers who want to help about 100 children and adults with disabilities improve their strength and have fun riding horses.

“Volunteers are the backbone of the center,” said Kris Schuster, assistant director. “If we didn’t have them, we wouldn’t survive.”

About 50 to 70 volunteers are needed every week. No experience with horses is necessary.

“We have lesson volunteers who help with side walking and leading horses, tacking horses putting on the saddles, grooming horses,” Schuster said.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and must attend an orientation course.

Riding lessons are 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

Also, the public is invited to attend a Christmas horse show featuring riders from the center who perform skills they have learned. The show will be from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 15.
