Gardena Makes Cuts to Close Budget Gap

Share

In order to whittle away at a $4.1-million budget deficit, Gardena city officials have decided that department managers will have their monthly car allowance reduced 50%. Those with city-issued vehicles have to purchase their own gasoline.

Also, the city is suspending the annual $400 physical examination benefit for officials. In addition, all cellular telephones issued to department managers have been deactivated. City employees will have to buy their own cell phones, said Finance Director Karen Plover Brust.

The economic measures approved last week by the City Council are expected to save $40,000 a year.
