Concerts, Carnivals All on the Schedule

From carnivals celebrating Hanukkah to Christmas concerts and tree-lighting ceremonies, churches, synagogues, malls and civic organizations are presenting free holiday-themed events all over Orange County. Here are a few:
Today
* Newport Dunes Resort will light 10 electric Christmas trees at 6 p.m. A showcase of vintage television Christmas specials featuring Nat “King” Cole, Johnny Mathis and the Carpenters will play on a big-screen television. The resort is at 1131 Backbay Drive, Newport Beach. (714) 729-1100.
* A tree-lighting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. in downtown Anaheim on Center Street Promenade. Choir of more than 500 children from local schools and U.S. Marine Corps band will perform. Strolling musicians at 4 p.m. and free horse and buggy rides from 4 to 8 p.m. (714) 999-9399.
Today-Sunday
* Old Towne Orange Winterfest ’97 will feature various events all weekend. A tree- and menorah-lighting ceremony and candlelight procession will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Old Towne is at Glassell Street and Chapman Avenue in Orange. (714) 639-9600.
Saturday
* The 27th annual Kandy Kaneland and Krafts Faire will feature artificial snow for kids to play in and a rock ‘n’ roll concert. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Buena Park Recreation Center, 8150 Knott Ave. (714) 562-3844.
* The Los Alamitos Historical Museum hosts its annual Christmas party for Los Alamitos and Rossmoor families. From 1 to 3 p.m. at the museum, 11062 Los Alamitos Blvd. (562) 431-8836.
* Christmas Festival, featuring a petting zoo, train rides and an arts and crafts show, takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Old World Village, 7561 Center Ave., Huntington Beach. (714) 899-4289.
* San Juan Capistrano’s first Christmas tree will be lighted at a 5 p.m. ceremony. Historic Town Center Park at El Camino Real and Yorba Street. (714) 493-4700.
Saturday and Sunday
* Salvation Army Brass Band and Choir performs “The Real Gift of Christmas” at 7 p.m. at the Salvation Army Tustin Ranch, 10200 Pioneer Road, Tustin. (714) 832-7100.
Sunday
* Hanukkah carnival and bazaar will be at 9 a.m. Congregation B’nai Israel, 2111 Bryan Ave., Tustin. (714) 730-9693.
* Holiday crafts, singing and readings of “The Polar Express” and “Searching for Santa” are part of Corona del Mar branch library’s open house from noon to 5 p.m. The library is at 420 Marigold Ave. (714) 717-3801.
