Colleagues Give Cook Third Term as Mayor
City Councilwoman Laurann Cook won her third term as mayor in 11 years this week.
Cook, 49, called for unity among the council, residents and businesses and stressed that she wants to keep Fountain Valley the way it is rather than make significant changes.
“ ‘Continue the Tradition’ is the theme of my year,” she said. “I am trying to focus locally, in the neighborhoods, but we need to look at the big picture as well.”
But she did pledge to keep an eye on the 40-year-old city’s infrastructure, maintain the appearance of neighborhoods and continue to work with the business community.
Cook succeeds City Councilman John J. Collins, who will remain on the council. Among the new mayor’s first duties Tuesday: turning on the holiday lights at City Hall.
