Marshall defeated Toledo, 34-14, Friday night in the Mid-American Conference championship game at Huntington, W.Va., and Marshall’s Randy Moss broke the Division I-A record for touchdown receptions in a season with his 23rd, 24th and 25th.

Moss caught a four-yard pass from Chad Pennington with 6:46 left in the third quarter to break the mark he shared with Houston’s Manny Hazard, set in 1989. He also scored on an 86-yard touchdown pass play with 3:48 left in the third quarter and outjumped a defender in the end zone for a 20-yard touchdown reception with 6:59 left in the game.

Moss, a sophomore, has scored a touchdown in each of his 27 games in his career.

Hazard set his record in 11 games, while Moss played in 12, but the NCAA considers conference championship games as regular-season games for statistical purposes.
