Teens and Crosswalks

Re “Police Blame Jaywalking in Teen’s Death,” Nov. 23.

As a resident living only half a mile from Grant High School, I must frequently pass the school in my car. The kids have little to no regard for traffic rules and become aggressive, even if you politely honk to remind them they are about to step out in front of a moving vehicle.

While the incident is a tragedy, the call to put in crosswalks will only make it worse. At that point they will feel more of a right to cross when they choose, expecting that traffic must, and will, stop for them.

It’s the same everywhere. I occasionally have to pass through North Hollywood High School territory in the mornings, and there might as well not even be traffic lights.

They either have no sense of their own mortality or they just don’t care.
