Street Maintenance Failing in Ventura

Share

I was just informed that the California gasoline taxes collected in each city are to be used exclusively for street and alley maintenance. It appears that Ventura, as compared to other cities in Southern California of similar population count, is low on the totem pole as to the condition of our public streets and alleys.

The question naturally arises: What does our city do with our allotment of funds? Is it a question of management or what?

You can impress visitors and increase tourist trade with the required major restoration of the main thoroughfares, but be sure you don’t let them see the condition of most of our side streets.

Earlier this year, a crash program was devised to repair with temporary patches the potholes that were evident throughout the city. My neighborhood street has not seen any preventive maintenance since 1962 and contacting public works, they informed me that future maintenance will be performed, per schedule. What is this scheduled date?
