A 73-year-old man who allegedly pointed a loaded semiautomatic handgun at two Simi Valley police officers was arrested after the officers wrestled him to the ground and beat him with a baton, police said Monday.

Stanley Allen was treated for a broken nose and bruised ribs at Simi Valley Hospital and then booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of brandishing a gun at a police officer, carrying a loaded and concealed handgun and resisting arrest.

Police were called to Allen’s home in the 1200 block of Drake Drive shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday after a report of a disturbance. When they arrived, a number of people went into the residence, but Allen, who had been arguing with another resident, stayed outside and pointed his flashlight at the officers.

As the officers got closer, they saw a handgun. When Allen refused to drop the weapon, Officers Tom Ohmer and Vincent Allegra rushed him, but he continued to struggle, and was beaten with the baton, according to Lt. Neal Rein.

After he was in custody, the officers found another loaded handgun in his pocket. Both weapons were confiscated. It was later that a witness told the officers that Allen had pointed the weapon at Ohmer when he was shining the flashlight at him, Rein said.

Investigators said they do not know Allen’s motive but that he did not appear to be intoxicated.
