Robinson Seeks Tougher Play

If the Kings are to have any chance of moving above .500 tonight with a win over Pittsburgh at the Forum, they will have to play tougher than they have in losing their last three games.

“We’ve lost sight of what type of team we are,” Coach Larry Robinson said. “If you look at since our goal production has gone done we have become a very soft team. We’re supposed to have the biggest team in the league right now and we can’t play any softer.”

Center Ray Ferraro had surgery to repair his torn left knee cartilage. He is expected to be out at least four weeks.

Rookie forward Donald MacLean, who has not seen much ice time the last month, and Roman Vopat, who was sent down and then recalled from the American Hockey League last week, could both be in the lineup more with Ferraro sidelined.

The Kings will conduct their final toy drive of the season before tonight’s game with fans encouraged to bring unwrapped gifts.

Update--The Kings played Pittsburgh to a 3-3 tie in the season opener for both teams and are 1-6-2 against Northeast Division teams. During their current three-game losing streak, the Kings have scored only four goals. Their power play has one goal in the last eight games.
