Lawrence R. Labrado will lead the Rancho Santiago Community College District Board of Trustees as president for the upcoming year.

“This is the year that we begin more direct planning for the future,” Labrado said Tuesday, his second day as leader of the board.

He said an expected population growth by 2007 will steer the board’s decisions regarding expansion.

“We will have tremendous amounts of students and we’ll have to decide how to build to maximum capacity,” Labrado said. “We also need to continue our progress in making Santa Ana and Santiago Canyon colleges No. 1 for the number of graduates and transfer students in the state.”

Labrado, 58, was appointed to the board in December 1993 and elected in November 1994. He works at Cal State Fullerton as a university outreach coordinator.

Trustee Brian E. Conley is the board’s new vice president and Trustee Michael Ortell is the new clerk.
