Need for Health Insurance

Re “No Health Insurance: a Parent’s Nightmare,” Dec. 7:

So many of us voted for Bill Clinton because of his promise to find a solution to the lack of access to health care in the United States, which continues to devastate our poor and middle classes.

There have been no beneficial or effective changes in our medical care system since Clinton became president. As usual, promises are made by candidates for public office but they are rarely kept.

I and a good majority believe we Americans deserve the security of socialized medicine, as exists in many countries that appear to care about the well-being of their citizens.

It seems our government can manage to find money to spend on thousands of non-beneficial projects but officials will not make any sincere effort to protect the health and well-being of our poor and middle-class citizens. Guess we will have to see what our next president and Congress do. By then too many will have died from poor or no health care.

* Once again The Times produced a very complete analysis of our poor health delivery system.

In the meantime the Republicans and Harry and Louise and their ilk who are real folk are still playing the game of “Gotcha.” Their only agenda item seems to be to destroy our one and only Democratic branch of government that is going about the people’s business. When are the Republicans going to begin addressing real problems that we face in our society?
