Planners Identify Los Rios Panel Issues

The city Planning Commission has pinpointed the issues it wants considered when a special committee studies future development in the historic Los Rios neighborhood.

The committee, once formed, will propose amendments to the 19-year-old plan that guides development in the Los Rios Historic District.

Some residents in the neighborhood--where adobe brick homes double as shops or cafes--are concerned about the impact of businesses on the neighborhood near the Mission San Juan Capistrano.

The commission on Tuesday said it wants the committee to explore the lack of parking, a public park, occupancy requirements for business owners and traffic.

Since the city allowed businesses such as the Ramos House Cafe and the Tea House on Los Rios to serve both food and alcohol, some residents became concerned that the 220-year-old neighborhood would lose its charm.
