$3.2-Million Campus Expansion Underway

In South County, new students are enrolling in public schools faster than the campuses are built.

So one private school here is taking steps to meet that demand.

In just five years, St. Anne School has seen its student population grow from 124 to 500. The school, once housed in trailer classrooms on Rancho Niguel Road, moved two years ago to larger portable buildings on Bear Brand Road.

Starting this month, the private Christian school for students in kindergarten through eighth grade will undergo a $3.2-million expansion. It’s part of a larger $12-million project to build a permanent campus for 729 students.

The first 25,000-square-foot building will include classrooms and a multipurpose gymnasium. It is scheduled to open in July. The entire 88,000-square-foot project is expected to be completed in 2000.

Money for the project comes from parent fund-raisers. Also, six families donated from $20,000 to $100,000 apiece.
