Dead Officer Suspected in Killing

SAN JOSE — A police officer who committed suicide was the most likely suspect in the death of his wife, Santa Clara County sheriff’s investigators said Friday.
“We have reasonable cause to believe that Tom Harris is responsible for the death of Judith Harris and that he acted alone,” Sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Angus said at a news conference.
The body of Judith Harris, a 48-year-old homemaker from San Jose, was found in the trunk of her car Nov. 9, two days after she was reported missing. Tom Harris, her husband and a San Jose police officer, was found dead Nov. 12, an apparent suicide, after being questioned by investigators.
Angus said that when investigators questioned Harris, he gave them conflicting statements and his alibi did not match the facts.
