Bearcat Turns to Iowa State
Suspended Cincinnati point guard Charles Williams hopes to transfer to Iowa State instead of waiting to play for the Bearcats at the end of the season, his attorney said.
Iowa State would have to appeal to the NCAA to have Williams’ eligibility reinstated.
Williams, a transfer from Chaffey College, was held out of the Bearcats’ NCAA tournament games last season after improprieties surfaced.
The NCAA later ruled that Williams cannot play for the Bearcats until the final six games of the 1997-98 regular season because of improper financial and academic assistance Cincinnati provided while he established eligibility last year.
“There are obviously a lot of issues,” said Anne Frayne, Williams’ attorney. “If all this works out, he will be at Iowa State Dec. 19 and can play Dec. 20.”
