Votes on Whaling

Share

Re “Dominica’s Support of Whaling Is No Fluke,” Dec. 9: I am sickened by Japan’s use of monetary incentives in order to compel five Caribbean nations to vote in favor of whale killing. Japan has deliberately pursued these five nations knowing that securing their votes could shift the International Whaling Commission’s stance and allow Japan to continue murdering these wonderful mammals.

I doubt the Japanese will starve because they are denied whale meat. It seems to me that they are accustomed to slaughtering whales and quite possibly enjoy the sport of it. The time has come to stop the senseless butchering of all whales across the globe. My solution for the IWC is to simply banish these Caribbean nations from the commission, along with their votes, for as long as they continue to accept bribes from Japan.
