Privatization Ends at Courtyard Center

Share

The city’s foray into privatizing the Courtyard Center ended last week with officials agreeing to again take on the management of the hall--at least temporarily.

The operation of the center, which is rented to the public for meetings and parties, had been contracted to a caterer in 1994 in an effort to reduce the city’s costs.

Only two organizations responded to the city’s call this year for caterers interested in operating the center. The current caterer was deemed “unqualified” for continued consideration, according to Cal Rietzel, director of community services.

The city will spend $22,085 to manage the center until June, when its operation will be reconsidered as part of the budget process.
