From Associated Press

The Boston Bruins didn’t speak to each other much about being blown out last month by the Florida Panthers at the Miami Arena. They knew what had to be done.

The Bruins avenged a 10-5 blowout Nov. 26 with a shellacking of their own, dominating the Panthers in a 6-2 victory Monday night at Miami to extend their winning streak to five games.

“I think it was one of the most gratifying victories in my 10 years,” Boston Coach Pat Burns said. “I think we had a point to prove. We wanted to prove it especially to ourselves.”

NHL Notes

The Detroit Red Wing masseur has been released from a Detroit hospital six months after a limousine crash left him and star defenseman Vladimir Konstantinov with severe head injuries. Doctors say Mnatsakanov remains wheelchair-bound, has the use of only one arm and likely will never walk again. Konstantinov, who was released from the hospital last month, is rehabilitating in Florida. . . . Calgary Flame goalie Rick Tabaracci signed a contract extension that will pay him more $700,000 this season and $1.2 million in 1998-99.
