A community group in Thousand Oaks is cooking a free dinner this Christmas and everyone is invited.

Conejo Community Dinners Inc. will hold its fourth annual Conejo Community Holiday Dinner at Thousand Oaks High School on Dec. 25, from noon to 5 p.m.

Student volunteers from local high schools expect to serve hot turkey, stuffing, vegetables and desserts to hundreds of area residents.

“A lot of people really don’t have anyone to be with Christmas Day,” said chairman Donn Delson. “The last couple of years we’ve had such a nice mix of people. This has become a comfortable and warm place to be.”

Last year, the group served more than 400 meals to parents and children, couples, singles and seniors, Delson said. This year he hopes to serve even more.

Elementary school students from the Conejo Valley Unified School District made place mats and table decorations, and middle-school students decorated the room. Volunteers from local Jewish youth groups will also participate.

“It’s the nicest place to be on Christmas Day,” Delson said.

Taxis and buses will be available to provide transportation to the event from as far away as Camarillo. To schedule a ride, call (805) 495-3500 or (818) 707-3500.
