Student Invited to Sing at Trumpet Awards

Musician and singer Jennifer Lindsay of Fountain Valley has been invited to perform at the Trumpet Awards, a Jan. 12 ceremony honoring African American achievements.
Lindsay, a sophomore at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, will sing and play violin alongside a host of celebrities in Atlanta, among them Gladys Knight, Robert Guillaume, Gen. Colin Powell, Whitney Houston, Jane Fonda and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Lindsay, 17, is listed in the awards program as a musical prodigy. And her achievements extend well beyond that.
Her grade-point average at OCC is 4.0. She also scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT. She said she hopes to attend either Stanford or Harvard university.
The awards ceremony will be televised at 4 p.m. Feb. 8 on the Turner Broadcasting System.
