Blues Have a Devil of a Time

New Jersey’s winning streak ended at seven games, but the Devils salvaged something when Denis Pederson scored midway through the third period Thursday night to help overcome a two-goal deficit and tie the Blues, 4-4, at St. Louis.

Pederson scored at 9:24 at point-blank range, beating Grant Fuhr after a turnover by the Blues.

Blues star Brett Hull left the game in the first period because of a bruised left thigh and did not return.

Dallas 2, Calgary 1--Jere Lehtinen scored the game-winner and Ed Belfour made 23 saves as the visiting Stars ended the Flames’ four-game winning streak.

Belfour gained his 19th victory and lowered his goals-against average to 1.83. Tony Hrkac also scored for the Stars.

German Titov scored for the Flames to extend his point-scoring streak to nine games.

Florida 4, Washington 0--John Vanbiesbrouck made 26 saves at Washington as the Panthers ended a three-game losing streak.

Florida broke the game open on goals by Ed Jovanovski, Radek Dvorak and Steve Washburn in a six-minute stretch of the third period.

Ottawa 3, Carolina 2--Derek Armstrong, called up from the minors earlier this month, scored the game-winner at 7:12 of the third period as the Senators won at Kanata, Ontario.

Vancouver 0, San Jose 0--Arturs Irbe stopped 38 shots to help the Canucks tie the Sharks at San Jose. In overtime, the Sharks took three shots to none for the Canucks.

Philadelphia 2, Boston 2--Joel Otto’s first goal of the season early in the third period gave the Flyers a tie with the Bruins at Philadelphia.
