*** Tito & Tarantula, “Tarantism,” Cockroach.
L.A. musician-actor Tito Larriva’s film-scoring experience (“Repo Man,” “Desperado”) and stylistic quirkiness inform 10 Technicolor-tinged tales of dire circumstances and vague hopes. The band generates cool heat through each mood swing, deftly switching from anger to bliss. Propelled by a gritty drama that recalls early Stones, the creepily lush film noir vignettes are more striking than the often schmaltzy ballads.
