Fire Destroys 2 Garages, Causes $85,000 Damage
A fire destroyed two garages in Whittier Tuesday but no one was injured.
The fire began about 6 a.m. at two adjacent properties in the 8300 block of College Avenue, Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Richard Freymond said.
Firefighters believe a discarded cigarette in a couch ignited the blaze, which lit up the predawn sky and was visible for miles.
The fire destroyed a 1956 Corvette and damaged two other vehicles, Freymond said. Damage was estimated to be about $85,000, he said.
