CHRISTMAS, BEARLY

Share

Christmas arrived at the Canoga Care Center after all. If you recall, 150 holiday teddy bears reserved for the center’s elderly residents had been mistakenly dispatched to Turkey by a freight company, only to be stalled in New York. After reading about the mishap in The Times, the president of EMRAD Ltd.--a family-owned business in Canoga Park that imports stuffed animals--came to the rescue with teddy-bear replacements. “Unanimously, the residents were delighted,” said Seth Becker, the center’s director of resident services.

* CHRISTMAS TRAGEDY: A woman who volunteered to work on Christmas so that others could have the day off was killed Thursday when her car was rammed by a station wagon driven by an allegedly drunk man who was rushing his pregnant wife to the hospital. Michelle Pagan was on her way home to get a few hours’ sleep before her shift began at Blockbuster Video when her car was broadsided. B1

* VALLEY 10: City Councilwoman Laura Chick dreams of the day she is addressed as Heronor. But for the next year, her goals are more modest than running for mayor. She’s looking forward to opening the Madrid Theatre in Canoga Park at the site of a former X-rated movie house, among other things. Chick is one of 10 Valley people who will make news in 1998. B1
