SAN DIEGO--Bring your mittens to the New Year’s Eve celebration First Night, 4:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. It’s an outdoor event, and this year will feature a play area with 60 tons of snow. FULLERTON--This city also hosts a New Year’s Eve shindig. First Night, 7 p.m.-midnight, will have activities at about 25 locations, with comedy- and silent-film screenings, a hypnotist, storytellers, art exhibits, kids’ karaoke and live music, including surf, rockabilly and zydeco. SANTA BARBARA--The New Year’s Day Hang Gliding and Paragliding Festival is an annual, informal gathering of hang gliders and para gliders, who soar and swoop off the ocean bluffs at Las Positas Friendship Park, at Las Positas Road and Cliff Drive. BAKERSFIELD--For those still in a buying mood after the holidays, the Antiques and Collectibles Show will be held at the Kern County Fairgrounds, Friday to next Sunday.
