Enrollment is now open for more than 150 workshops and seminars offered this summer by Mission College’s Community Extension program.

Courses range from verbal self-defense and cooking international cuisine to 3-D computer animation and how to start a small business, Mission officials said.

“For the first time, many of the computer workshops will be held in Mission College’s new Library and Learning Resources Center, which contains a concentration of high-tech computers and software not found at other community colleges,” said Diane Astadurian, extension manager.

The $12-million center, which opened in March, contains an audiovisual studio, teleconferencing center and more than 300 Internet-linked computers.

Enrollment is also open in Mission’s “College for Kids and Teens,” which features workshops in academic subjects like math and reading as well as courses in photography, ballet, acting and a variety of sports.

The summer extension program runs from July 8 to Sept. 30. Most courses cost less than $100, Mission officials said, with prices ranging from $24 for a greeting card workshop to almost $1,000 for the most expensive video production workshops.

Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

For information about registration, call the extension office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at (818) 364-7387.
